Would you recommend a sump filter( please read details below )???

i have got a 220 litre tank, and plan on placing another tank the same size next to it, but firstly i want to get the one i have set up, do you think it is worth the all the extra effort etc, etc getting a sump filter set up on the tank i have so that i can expand etc later on? to filter more tanks i plan on setting up?? or would i be better off just buying good quality canisters?? i know that sumps provide extremely good biological filtration, and provide a good place to hide heaters etc etc, but i am wondering if it's really worth the extra money and effort??
