My computer runs on windows vista. I tried burning a DVD-r on it for the first time today?

and it said that there was no disc in the drive! I tried several different discs and they still didn't work. Went to the store and bough some different ones and the same problem. It read DVD'rs that already have info on them and has no problem when it comes to CDrs. Anybody out there ever have the same problem?
