Why does drink taste better from a bottle as opposed to a can or plastic?

How does the container that you drink from affect the taste, or is it subliminal. The same beer can taste better from a bottle than a can, or in a gl as opposed to a plastic beaker. Is the drink 'tainted' by the vessel from which it is consumed? The same seems to go for food too.
