How can you explain his behaviour?

I was at an office to resolve some problems,and the guy working there showed up(he was with his bike),he looked at me and then he left,only to return after 3 minutes,My father knows his mother,and he paid her a visit after a few days,and she told him that he had a beautiful daughter,and they were laughing together,as parents usually do,about us being together and stuff like that.My father told her that I'm too young(17),but she told him that my age isn't a problem(her son is about 27 years old).She also told my father that he is shy.I live near his office,and when I ped by,I saw him staring at me through his window(he didn't see that I noticed him,because I pretended not to).Is my age the problem?Because I really believe that if a guy likes you,he will try to get to know you better,but I really don't know if I should stop thinking about him(I could do this,but I don't want to ).He really reminds me of Jane Austen's character,Mr. Darcy,and I noticed something different about him.Could I be the exception,or am I just the rule?
